The Wellness Clinic at the League is expanding! Our mission is to reduce the number of homeless cats and dogs in Greater Cincinnati by providing a compassionate no-kill shelter and programs that give all families access to quality care for their pets. The clinic provides full veterinary services to the shelter and foster animals at the League; and spay/neuter and limited wellness services to other animal rescues partners and the community.
Primary function: Responsible for the general medical condition of all shelter animals; participates in public-facing community veterinary care programs for owned pets, including high-volume spay/neuter and wellness clinics. Expected day will include 25-30 spay/neuter surgeries; shelter animal medical exams and diagnostics for 10 patients.
The Veterinarian:
- Performs spay/neuter and other surgeries, including dentals, enucleations, amputations, growth removals, blockages, etc for an estimated 2,000 shelter animals annually.
- Performs public spay/neuter surgeries for approximately 2,500 public animals annually.
- Performs wellness exams and creates and oversees diagnostic and treatment plans for shelter animals in coordination with Animal Care Managers, including euthanasia in limited circumstances where appropriate.
- Advises and supervises RVTs and Vet Assistants.
- Verifies tracking of all controlled substances.
- Effectively communicates with medical staff, shelter personnel, and pet owners.
- Follows proper sanitation protocols to minimize disease transmission.
- Stays up-to-date on all veterinary protocols, especially with regards to shelter medicine.
- Completes medical and surgical charting in a professional and efficient manner.
- Appropriately and efficiently manages time for the medical team to ensure humane care for all patients.
- Maintains a positive, collaborative, and respectful demeanor with all stakeholders.
- Maintains the proper balance between excellent veterinary care standards and reasonable cost structures.

Schedule is full or part-time.
Salary range $80-$100/hour, commensurate with experience.

Requirements
- Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from accredited institution.
- Licensed to work in the state of Ohio.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in fast-paced clinic or shelter environment.
- DEA Registration and schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4 and 5
- Comfortable performing high-volume spay/neuter surgeries, with a typical schedule of 30 animals daily.
- High regard and respect for team, with a positive, collaborative, and thoughtful disposition and respectful communication at all times.
- Compassionate, customer-service approach.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs; and work on feet for 6-8 hour days.
