Second Shift | Emergency & Specialty Practice
Carolina Animal Specialty & Emergency Hospital (CASE) is seeking a Weekend Veterinary Assistant to join our 24-hour Emergency and Specialty hospital in Hickory, NC.
Our 12,000-square-foot referral facility supports advanced veterinary medicine across Emergency & Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Behavior, and Rehabilitation services. This role is ideal for veterinary assistants who thrive in fast-paced emergency environments and are eager to build advanced technical skills while supporting complex patient care.

CASE is a large-scale emergency and specialty referral hospital equipped with advanced medical technology, including:
• Dedicated Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
• CT imaging
• Digital radiology and fluoroscopy
• Advanced ultrasound
• Comprehensive in-house laboratory diagnostics
• Endoscopy and minimally invasive surgical equipment
• Full rehabilitation and sports medicine suite
Our hospital is designed to support complex medical cases, critical care patients, and advanced diagnostics in a collaborative, team-focused environment.
This is a dedicated weekend position with consistent scheduling Friday - Sunday's.
Required Availability - Second Shift
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Technical Skills
- Assist veterinarians and technicians with emergency and specialty procedures
- Perform IV catheter placement and venipuncture
- Administer medications (IV, SQ, oral) under supervision
- Assist with anesthesia preparation and monitoring
- Support radiographic imaging and diagnostic procedures
- Perform laboratory testing including bloodwork, urinalysis, and fecal testing
- Assist with emergency response and CPR protocols
Patient Care
- Provide compassionate inpatient nursing care
- Monitor hospitalized and post-operative patients
- Recognize and communicate changes in patient condition
- Assist with patient handling and restraint
Client Support & Documentation
- Communicate with clients regarding patient care and updates
- Support patient admissions and discharges
- Assist with discharge instructions and treatment plan education
- Maintain accurate medical records and invoicing documentation
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
- Experience working as a Veterinary Assistant
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Strong animal handling and restraint skills
- Ability to stay calm and focused in high-pressure emergency situations
- Team-oriented attitude with strong communication skills
- Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) credential
- Previous Emergency or Specialty Veterinary Hospital experience
- Familiarity with critical care workflows
