Job Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) who enjoys surgery, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and takes pride in providing exceptional patient care.
As part of our mobile surgery team, you will work directly alongside an ACVS board-certified veterinary surgeon performing advanced orthopedic and soft tissue procedures at partnering veterinary hospitals throughout Northern California.
The ideal candidate possesses excellent surgical nursing skills, confidence in anesthesia monitoring, outstanding organizational abilities, and a strong desire to continue learning. Golden State Veterinary Specialists is an independently owned specialty mobile surgery practice based in Rocklin/Roseville, California.
The practice is led by an ACVS board-certified veterinary surgeon with more than 12 years of specialty surgical experience in private specialty practice, emergency hospitals, and academic veterinary medicine. Our goal is to make advanced surgical care accessible by bringing specialty surgery directly to veterinary hospitals throughout Northern California.

Position Overview
In this role, you will be responsible for every aspect of surgical support in a mobile setting—from preparation through patient recovery—helping ensure efficient procedures, patient safety, and exceptional surgical outcomes.
Every day is different. One day you may assist with TPLO procedures and fracture repairs; the next you may be involved in oncologic surgery, reconstructive procedures, airway surgery, or advanced soft tissue cases.
Responsibilities include preparing operating rooms at host hospitals, maintaining sterile technique, assisting during surgery, managing anesthesia, monitoring patients, recovering surgical patients, sterilizing equipment, coordinating logistics, and helping ensure our mobile surgery service operates efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare operating rooms, sterile fields, and instrumentation at partnering hospitals
Assist with orthopedic, soft tissue, reconstructive, and oncologic surgical procedures
Prepare and organize procedure-specific implants, orthopedic power equipment, and specialty surgical instrumentation to ensure each surgery proceeds efficiently and safely.
Maintain strict aseptic technique throughout surgical procedures
Assist with patient induction, anesthesia monitoring (under veterinarian supervision), recovery, and post-operative care
Obtain and assist with preoperative and postoperative digital radiographs when needed
Clean, pack, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments according to industry standards
Maintain surgical equipment and inventory
Load and unload equipment, implants, instruments, and supplies into the company vehicle
Drive and care for the company vehicle used for mobile service operations
Communicate professionally with veterinarians, technicians, assistants, and clients
Support inventory management, scheduling, and light administrative duties
Accurately document surgical procedures, anesthesia monitoring, and patient care in accordance with professional and legal standards
Requirements
Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license
Minimum one year of RVT experience preferred
Surgical experience strongly preferred; however, we are willing to train an enthusiastic technician with a strong work ethic and passion for surgery
Strong skills in surgical preparation, anesthesia monitoring, and patient handling
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Willingness to travel throughout Northern California
Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
Ability to stand for extended periods
Valid California driver's license with a clean driving record
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Calm, respectful, and professional under pressure
Flexibility to occasionally work weekends and holidays when surgical schedules require
Perform all essential RVT duties in compliance with California regulations
