Keys Animal ER at Cruz Animal Hospital is seeking a full-time Overnight Emergency Veterinarian to join our independently owned hospital in the Florida Keys.

We are the only 24/7 veterinary emergency hospital serving the Florida Keys. Our hospital operates as a busy GP/ER practice during the day and transitions to emergency-focused care overnight. This provides our ER veterinarians with a diverse caseload and the opportunity to practice meaningful, hands-on emergency medicine in a unique community setting.

Our overnight veterinarians manage emergency and hospitalized patients with the support of an experienced veterinary technician and support team. Cases range from urgent-care presentations to critically ill and injured patients requiring stabilization, diagnostics, hospitalization, emergency procedures, and surgery.

We are not a specialty referral center and do not expect our doctors to be specialists. Our veterinarians are encouraged to use their clinical judgment, practice high-quality medicine, and stabilize and refer patients when specialty-level care is appropriate.

Outside of the hospital, the Florida Keys offer an exceptional lifestyle for anyone who enjoys boating, fishing, diving, snorkeling, kayaking, and life on the water. Our hospital is located on Ramrod Key in the Lower Keys, approximately 30 miles from Key West.

We are looking for an experienced emergency veterinarian, or a confident veterinarian with strong GP or urgent-care experience who is ready to transition into emergency medicine.

Requirements

Applicants must hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent and possess a current Florida veterinary license or be eligible to obtain one. The ideal candidate will be comfortable independently evaluating, diagnosing, stabilizing, and managing emergency and hospitalized patients, including critically ill cases. Strong diagnostic, clinical decision-making, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential. Candidates should be comfortable performing common emergency procedures and working closely with veterinary technicians and support staff during overnight shifts. Emergency and surgical experience are preferred; however, we are also open to an experienced GP or urgent-care veterinarian with strong clinical skills and an interest in transitioning into emergency medicine.
