Veterinary Technician (Registered or Provisional)
Denkai Animal Sanctuary Veterinary Clinic – Durango, Colorado
Full-Time or Part-Time | Hourly | Non-Exempt
Denkai Animal Sanctuary is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and mission-driven Registered or Provisional Veterinary Technician to join our growing veterinary team in Durango, Colorado.
Our affordable veterinary clinic provides access to quality care for pets and families who may otherwise go without services. This is an opportunity to be part of meaningful work that directly impacts animals and the community every day.
About the Role
Veterinary Technicians at Denkai provide both clinical and administrative support within our Veterinary Services Department. Team members assist with surgeries, dentals, wellness and illness care, diagnostics, patient monitoring, and daily clinic operations while helping us maintain a high standard of compassionate and affordable care.
Schedules may be full-time or part-time and may include occasional weekend or emergency coverage depending on clinic needs. Flexibility, teamwork, and professionalism are highly valued.
Primary Responsibilities
Assist with surgical procedures including patient preparation, induction, intubation, anesthesia monitoring, and recovery
Prepare and maintain surgical suites, instruments, and supplies
Perform dental prophylaxis and dental radiographs
Assist veterinarians with dental and medical procedures
Conduct patient intake, physical assessments, and medical triage as directed
Administer medications and treatments
Perform and interpret basic diagnostics including fecals, urinalysis, cytology, and point-of-care testing
Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation within clinic software
Provide compassionate client communication, discharge instructions, and follow-up support
Assist with animal restraint, handling, feeding, cleaning, and general patient care
Support volunteers and students when applicable
Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient clinic environment
Report patient safety concerns and equipment or workplace issues promptly
Uphold professional conduct and dependable attendance
Qualifications
Required:
Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or Provisional Veterinary Technician in Colorado
Graduate of an accredited Veterinary Technician program or eligible for provisional registration
Minimum one year of animal handling experience in a clinic, shelter, boarding, or similar setting
Proficiency with:
Intubation
IV catheter placement
IV injections
Anesthesia monitoring and response
Animal restraint and patient handling
Experience with computerized medical records
Valid Colorado driver’s license and insurable driving record
Willingness to obtain rabies vaccination and periodic titer testing
Preferred:
Previous veterinary technician experience
Dental and dental radiology experience
Veterinary software experience (Shepherd, Clinic HQ, Chameleon, or similar)
Bilingual English/Spanish skills (wage premium available)

Zoonotic diseases
Cleaning chemicals and anesthetic gases
X-rays and medical equipment
Fractious or fearful animals
Animal bites and scratches
Noise, dust, weather, and physically demanding tasks
Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds, standing for extended periods, animal restraint, bending, kneeling, walking dogs, and computer data entry.
