Join Our Team: Veterinary Technicians (Levels I - IV)

Moffitt Cancer Center is seeking dedicated Veterinary Technicians at all levels to join our collaborative team. As an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, we are a leader in the field, located in the fast-growing and culturally diverse Tampa Bay area. Here, your expertise directly contributes to discoveries that change lives worldwide.
Location: On-site in the beautiful Tampa Bay area of Florida. The primary work site for this position is the new SPEROS Moffitt Discovery & Innovation Center; based on program needs, you may also split time by providing scheduled coverage at our USF Campus location.
The Role
Under the supervision of the Attending Veterinarian, our Veterinary Technicians ensure the highest standards of animal welfare according to The Guide for the Care & Use of Laboratory Animals. You will support cancer research through clinical care, technical procedures, and health surveillance.
Career Levels & Requirements
Veterinary Technician I
Education: Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in veterinary/animal health technology from an AVMA-accredited program.
Experience: Graduation from an AVMA program OR 6 months of experience in animal care (laboratory, breeding, or boarding).
Veterinary Technician II
Education: Bachelor’s degree (AVMA program) or Associate’s degree.
Experience: With a Bachelor's, 2 years of experience (1 year in research); with an Associate’s, 4 years of experience (1 year in research).
Veterinary Technician III
Education: Bachelor’s degree (AVMA program) or Associate’s degree.
Experience: With a Bachelor's, 4 years of experience (2 years in research); with an Associate’s, 6 years of experience (2 years in research).
Veterinary Technician IV
Education: Bachelor’s degree (AVMA program) or Associate’s degree.
Experience: With a Bachelor's, 6 years of experience (3 years in research); with an Associate’s, 8 years of experience (3 years in research).
Core Qualifications (All Levels)
Licensure: Current license, registration, or certification as a Veterinary Technician. (New Level I graduates must pass the VTNE within one year of hire).
Skills: Proficiency in anesthesia monitoring, drug dose calculations, and medical record keeping.
Schedule: Ability to work 4-10 hour days, including weekend and holiday rotations.
Physical: Ability to stand/walk for more than 50% of a shift and lift between 20–50 lbs depending on the level.
Preferred Qualifications: AALAS Certification: (ALAT, LAT, or LATG levels).
Specialized Experience: Rodent breeding colony production, survival surgery, and complex rodent models.
