Description

Coral World Ocean Park is located in the beautiful U.S. Virgin Islands and is hiring for a full-time Veterinary Technician. This position has the responsibility of supplying veterinary technician and clinical laboratory technical support to the Park’s Veterinary Division. This position assists with supportive and medical procedures to ensure the health and welfare of all animals housed at the Coral World Ocean Park. The veterinary technician performs the day-to-day functions of the veterinary laboratory and quality control programs, including but not limited to: hematology, serum chemistry, cytology, imaging (ultrasounds & radiographic), urine analysis, fecal parasite exams, and water coliform tests. The Veterinary Technician provides assistance to the veterinarians as needed including support for diagnostics and treatments such as endoscopy, surgery, radiology, ultrasound, biopsies, necropsy, catheterization, anesthesia and fluid therapy of birds, mammals, reptiles, and fish. This position acts as the lead on: sea turtle stranding and recovery, bird, reptile, and other rehabilitation case rehabilitation and recovery.  

Requirements

-A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a licensed (or certified) veterinary technician and/or must be eligible for a Veterinary Technician Certificate 
-Have at least one year’s experience as a clinical veterinary technician.  Preferably in a zoo or aquarium setting

-Ability to be organized, self-motivated, and possess a strong desire to see the completion of projects.  
-Ability to speak and write effectively and be comfortable meeting new people and interfacing with diverse interests.   
-Experience with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.   
-Knowledge of applicable analytical laboratory equipment.  
-Ability to pass an annual, on-site swimming test. 
-Possess hazardous materials training and/or lab safety training. 
-Ability to work legally in the United States. 
-Ability to attain a Virgin Islands driver's license.  
-Willingness to comply with background check and random drug testing as determined by Coral World.
